Teaching
The goal of the focus on biological inspired artificial intelligent systems is to convey the currently most modern concepts of information processing in strong coupling with industrial applications.
Cognitive Systems comprises research and teaching approaches that investigate mechanisms of neural information processing in constant feedback and use these mechanisms to advance the development of artificial autonomous systems, so-called neuro-autonomous systems. Cognitive science and computer-based neuroscience play a key role in this process. Abstract principles of brain learning are translated into a mathematical language and thus form the basis for the application of these principles in machine systems.
In the lectures, students are introduced to the concepts and are given the opportunity to apply the learned concepts to problems from the respective field in the subsequent exercises. The lectures are accompanied by practical courses and project work, in which the students, independently and self-organized in small groups, carry out problems or experiments derived from current practice, from design to planning and implementation.
In the seminars, the ability to independently develop complex scientific content and to present it in the form of essays and lectures is trained and the ethical and social consequences of this research field are explicitly examined.
Furthermore, the responsibility in handling data, the appropriate way of publishing results, the consideration of collaborators in the authorship and especially the careful embedding of one’s own results in the already existing literature will be explained.
